Do you go on hikes as a family? I know it’s hard to break away from the electronics and it sometimes feels like there’s too much work to do inside to get out of the house, but it’s important to set aside time for an outdoor activity like hiking as a family. I’m making an effort to hike more with my family this Summer, and am sharing some key reasons you should too (along with a Northside shoe giveaway)!
With 6 years between my kids, holding a newborn again almost felt like the first time all over again. I had the memory of doing all this before, though, and so much more information this time around. So instead of being afraid of that first big bath at home, I felt prepared. Here are my tips for baby’s first bath. Read more
What you eat after having a baby is just as important as what you’re eating while pregnant — Which is exactly why I’m trying to be better about eating healthy foods that do a lot for my body. Since beans are a great source of protein and fiber (two things a breastfeeding mama really needs) I tried my hand at making a quick 10-minute hummus that allows for easy healthy snacking. I’m pretty sure this “holiday time” is everyone’s favorite time of year, but it’s a whirlwind. The months fly by fast, and there’s always so much to do in so little time, that a lot of important things get pushed to the back burner as not so immediate or important. (I’ve been meaning to take weekly bump pictures this pregnancy and keep skipping weeks because they just go too quick!) So how do you ensure your back-to-back holidays are not only happy but also healthy? Keep reading for some essential tips to have this season.
How many apps do you have on your phone right now? I have over 100 apps on my iPhone, all asking me to do something ASAP with notifications going off constantly. But being so available on demand can be draining when everyone at home wants mommy to do something ASAP too, so I’ve been looking into wellness apps that help remind me to take a break, unplug, de-stress and be mindful of my own feelings. After all, it’s important to be aware of how you’re feeling with everything going on, and how it can be managed. Keep reading for the 411 on my new favorite app for just that.
Can we talk tummy troubles for a bit? My kiddo was screaming in her sleep the other night. Not because of night terrors (though she does get those sometimes), but because of an irritated & gassy stomach. So when I heard about probiotics for kids I gave them a try! I’ve been buying probiotic drinks for myself because of my own gut imbalance but hadn’t thought about how important it might be for her before this. Keep reading to see how probiotics might benefit your child’s health, and to snag a freebie offer!
As parents, we wake up in the morning thinking about what our kids need for the day. We spend the day making sure they are cared for, hoping they learn something new each day, and go to bed planning for what the next day holds. Somewhere in between breakfast and bedtime, we are also managing to fit in general day-to-day responsibilities. This chaos can be exhausting, which is why these 5 tips for a better day are so important. Give a few of them a try! Read more
Managing to eat breakfast now that the kiddo is in school hasn’t been easy. I get back from school drop off and try to catch up on social media and emails as soon as I can so the next thing I know it’s noon or 1 p.m. already and I haven’t eaten a thing all day. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m trying to be better about getting some sort of breakfast/protein in so I’ve been looking into ways S and I can get the morning nutrition we need without adding too much time to our morning since we’re perpetually “going to be late.” The answer? Smoothies! I’ve created two 5-minute smoothies that I know you’re going to love — A Nourishing Carmel Apple Smoothie for fall (or anytime you want it to feel like fall) and a Peanut Butter Lover Workout Smoothie. Yoga was vital to keeping calm, centered and in shape during my pregnancy with S so I recently started practicing yoga again to avoid being buried in stress this pregnancy. The best part? S can do the yoga with me! Making time for a wellness activity together has allowed me time to workout (finally!) and show S how important taking care of her own wellness really is. Keep reading for a few quick tips to get your family started on their own wellness routine. Read more
I’m all about peanut butter and S is all about apples (no food allergies here) but with my dairy sensitivity it has made eating something as tasty as apple PB&Js not as fun. After all, S likes to dip her apples in milk and I really enjoy the refreshing taste of milk after a bite of my protein-packed PB&J with apple slices inside. Fortunately, I learned about a different kind of cow’s milk that isn’t genetically modified or altered in any way, but that doesn’t give either of us tummy troubles either — the perfect milk for our after-school snacking in a few weeks!
