20 Things to Never Text Extended Breastfeeding Moms

Breastfeeding/ Family/ Parent Life

Extended breastfeeding is widely accepted in some countries, but the United States isn’t one of them. Here, it’s an uncomfortable topic thought of as socially unacceptable, and support is lacking. Some really hurtful and untrue comments are often thrown around, and it’s time to remove them from the conversation about what extended breastfeeding is really like and why parents do it. If you aren’t comfortable with extended breastfeeding, keep the negativity to yourself and avoid texting (or saying) these 20 comments to an extended nursing mom you know, or even anyone trying to breastfeed their kid past 6 months (yep, even before 1 year there are comments). The Must-Get Activity Tracker Moms Need to Snag

Apps/ Health/ Mom/ Products/ Tech

When you’re breastfeeding there’s a natural system in place to help you lose the baby weight, but remembering to stay active during your day gets harder each day. Remembering when it’s time to feed the baby (bottle or breastmilk), take a pill or get up and play outside with the kiddo can get lost in the shuffle of a hectic day, too. Sometimes when the kiddo finally falls asleep it’s on your arm and you know you can’t move an inch or nap time is all done so you get in the habit of vegging out. After getting through the toddler and baby years it wasn’t until my kiddo was 4 that I realized I had waited too long to make active, healthy living a party of my day, too. I found the LEAF by Bellabeat online and reached out to them about testing it out. I’m so glad I did. I’ve watched as friends and family bought other activity trackers and none of them really felt like a fit for me until this one. Read more

Daddy Style: Black & Grey

Dad/ Daddy Style/ Parent Life/ Style

Who says moms should have all the fun? Dads spend time with the kiddos too, and so often change up their style a bit. The Daddy Style series is all about maintaining a hip style while being a prepared and engaged parent. Today’s black and grey color pairing allows for a diaper bag guys would totally be OK with toting around, a hip shirt with dad messaging, some headphones for quiet tablet time (sometimes the kids just want it to be a bit too loud and sometimes you want to watch your own thing), and an adorable swaddle set that can serve as a snot rag, blankie or doll cover as the kiddo gets older. I think the “My kid has an awesome dad” shirt says it all. (The following may contain affiliate links, meaning I get a few cents if you buy items.) Read more

4 Steps to a Clean and Organized Garage

Design/ Home/ Parent Life

This post was created in partnership with maids. com — Thanks for the support (and motivation to clean my garage)! All opinions are my own.

Though the concept of Spring Cleaning is a bit more popular, I don’t hold off my major home detox until one season a year. With a dog, cat, kid and husband in it my house gets super messy incredibly fast. I’m tired of shoving everything in closets so that the house appears picked up enough for the cleaners to work on the table and floor surfaces during their bi-weekly visits. For this reason, I started going through things in the house with the first major overhaul in the garage because everything I purge from inside the house will end up there until it finds a way to a new home, anyway. Well, that and I don’t want to feel embarrassed every time my neighbor looks into my garage. It’s about then that Maids.com contacted me about partnering on a home organization post — Perfect! I searched their blog (didn’t know they had one before!) for some helpful tips for cleaning my messy garage and found a ton! Here’s a mix of my favorite tips from the cleaning experts themselves at maids.com and my own know-how from tackling my garage (still a work in progress but you should see the Before pic)! Read more
