Shopping for my oldest nephew has always been difficult — My brother’s in the military so they move every few years to places that aren’t exactly close to home and I don’t see them that often. Now that he’s a full-fledged teen I was feeling completely lost on what kind of Christmas gift to get him this year. Shopping for my daughter or my niece is easy for me, shopping for my oldest nephew? Not so much. Fortunately, my nephew happened to reach out about a fundraiser for his school basketball team and then just a week later I learned about the opportunity to check out the new NBA Reflective Collection Clothing at select Target stores! I adore giving gifts that people want and appreciate, but it’s always a bonus for me if the gift fills a need or practical use. Now that I know he plays basketball, getting him reflective clothing made for basketball players seems like the perfect gift. I’m so ready to be the favorite aunt. Read more

A Pre-Teen Movie-Themed Birthday Party

Family/ Home/ Parties/ Teen

Awhile back when I asked my oldest son, Aiden, what kind of party he wanted for his 12th birthday and he said he wanted to have a movie birthday party. 3 Things Teens Should Learn From Korean Dramas Before They Date

Social Good/ Teen

Dating isn’t what it used to be. I don’t think “dating” is even a thing anymore! There’s something like “hanging out,” “in talks,” “seeing each other,” “open relationship”  . . . . the list of names for people getting physical together without actually investing in one another emotionally or faithfully can go on. But not in Korean dramas! My sister is totally into anime and started watching Korean dramas years ago, then got me watching a few with her (Hello, Coffee Prince!). I enjoy binge watching a good show now and again and found myself hooked. If you’ve never seen a K Drama (as it’s sometimes called), then this list is for you just as much as the teen in your life. Despite the fact that people can move and somehow fit everything they owned from their massive house in a single tiny suitcase on these shows, there’s a bit to be learned from Korean dramas and I’m covering just a few here. 3 Things Families Can Learn From Olympic Swimmers

Big Kid/ Birthing/ Family/ Health/ Teen

Swim Today put together a parent meet and greet in Santa Clara, CA with three-time Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines, as well as four-time gold medalist Missy Franklin‘s Dad, Dick, Olympic Gold Medalist Conor Dwyer‘s dad, Pat, and a local dad who is currently taking his 10-year-old son to competitions in hopes of someday making it to the Olympics. During this event, Rowdy asked these swim dads some great questions about the process of becoming an Olympic swimmer, then taught a quick swim clinic to all the kids, and I learned a lot, including what we could all learn from Olympians and their families!
